A Crumpled Up Research Note

The subject is clearly experiencing intense mental instability. When brought in, the subject said that their soul was gone. Analysis determined amnesia; possibly as a result of an overdose of benzodiazepines or possibly cannabis. When questioned, the subject said that they were here to learn the terrible secrets of the universe. The subject said that they were not the first to attempt to learn these secrets. Upon questioning if they were aware of their current location, the subject said that they were in a simulation. The subject is often seen screaming and thrashing in pain for extended periods of time. The average length of these bursts of pain is ten minutes. Other doctors have attempted to bring the subject back to reality by showing them pictures and asking if they remember them. One doctor reported hearing the subject talk about seeing a corpse in a bathtub, presumably a suicide, and hearing lightning as strobe lights flicker. No one has been able to interpret what they mean. A few days after, the doctor who overheard the subject began to experience similar effects as the subject. Unlike the subject, however, the doctor has been repeatedly seen laughing maniacally while crying and whimpering that it will all be over by Christmas. We do not know how much longer we can keep them in confinement. Most of the doctors are considering killing them in an act of mercy to end their suffering.
